| | Can I get a recount?November 14, 2012 - April DiodatoWhen America votes, sometimes the right choice is made, and sometimes the choice is dubious. I have been questioning the reasoning of those demanding a recount (and secession!) days after the presidential election was decided, but when it comes to “The Voice,” I can relate. I, too, have not made much progress getting through those five stages of grief. It's tough to keep shifting from denial to anger to bargaining, and back to denial again. So many emotions. That's where I'm at with the elimination of Michaela Paige right now. Can we start a petition for a “Voice” recount? That 16-year-old powerhouse singer deserved a spot in the top four. It's very sad, but I think her caveat was the missing mohawk. When Paige stepped onstage without her signature 'do, she wasn't as recognizable – my boyfriend refers to her as “mohawk girl” – and that's important when you're one of 12 singers remaining in a competition. I typically have trouble keeping track of who's who on “Project Runway” until they're down to the top six. Let this be a lesson to the singers still standing: whatever your trademark is, don't make any significant alterations now. It's all about making a lasting impression. And don't sing first – unless you're Trevin Hunte. I do wholeheartedly agree with Adriana Louise getting cut last night. However, as much as I have enjoyed some of Cody Belew's past performances, his rendition of Tina Turner's “The Best” simply wasn't. My choice for the second cut would have been Belew or Sylvia Yacoub. I guess that America loves sparkly vests and rump-shaking ... and the “Titanic” theme song. I can forgive them for the former, but not the latter.
