| | It's not over yetSeptember 2, 2008 - John D'AgostinoReturning college students and the sights of yellow school buses signal the unofficial end of the summer season in Chautauqua County. Despite numerous ups and downs -- as far as the temperatures and rainfall go -- our summer here was super once again. In northern Chautauqua County, a number of new events had great beginnings. Most notable were those organized by the city of Dunkirk, including a weekly Music at the Pier series, Wreck and Roll in late June and a sand extravaganza in early August. Also getting in on the act this year was the Lake Erie Wine Trail, which made a tremendous impact with its America's Grape Country Wine Festival event at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds. It brought in wine lovers from across the state as well as Pennsylvania and Ohio. This week, a new season begins. Football season. All area high schools open their schedules this weekend. And the Bills start on Sunday. Needless to say, we in Western New York savor this time of year. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
