Intercollegiate Quidditch World Cup
October 26, 2008
Intercollegiate Quidditch World Cup, Middlebury College, Allegany, Middlebury College.
On Sunday, October 26th, Middlebury College will be hosting the first large Intercollegiate Quidditch Tournament in history.
14 College and University Quidditch teams are traveling to Middlebury from around the country and beyond: Princeton, Vassar, Rochester, Louisiana State, University of Washington, McGill, Amherst, University of Massachusetts, Boston University, Chestnut Hill, Carlow, Emerson, and Green Mountain College.
Quidditch, the sport from JK Rowling's Harry Potter books, was adapted into a real-life, rough and tumble, full contact, thrilling sport that was started at Middlebury College in 2005.
Since then, students at Middlebury have worked hard to promote and share the sport with others. "Muggle Quidditch" has expanded rapidly into a nationwide phenomenon - more than 180 colleges from around the country have registered teams.
To accompany the day long tournament there will be live entertainment by Middlebury's bands, the flying fists (a student fire-juggling club), a capella, chemistry professors exploding potions, sports announcers, a fully equipped field with bleachers and tents, and tons of food on sale by local Vermont vendors.
This is an excellent event for families, and not to be missed by Harry Potter lovers, sports fans, and fall festival-goers alike. The event will run from 10 AM to 6 PM, and it is free and open to the public.
Cost is: FREE. More information at: 917-817-1534.
