SAVE Act deserves support
Editor, OBSERVER: Last year, Rep. Shuler (D-N.C.) introduced the SAVE Act (H.R. 4088) and you were one of the first members to co-sponsor it on Nov. 6, 2007. As you are well aware, the SAVE Act will remove the job magnet that attracts illegal aliens to this country, and will also penalize employers who violate U.S. immigration and labor laws by hiring these illegal aliens. The SAVE Act combines work place enforcement with enhanced security at the border and has considerable bi-partisan support. However, you are also well aware that there are many in Congress who are trying to prevent the bill from ever reaching the floor of the House. They are succeeding, and your inaction is helping. One hundred and sixty bi-partisan cosponsors have not been enough to convince House leadership to move the act through the legislative process.
