People are always asking me, “Where do you get all your ideas for your columns?” Sometimes I hear things, sometimes I read things, sometimes I do things and sometimes things just happen. I know most of you are too young to remember Zazar Pitts (I’m spelling her name phonetically). She was an old-time comedienne who used to say, “Everything happens to me. Life is just a bowl of cherries and I’m the pits!” Well, I relate to the first part, but I’m too cheery to say “I’m the pits.” Anyway, one night after shopping I wanted to put my groceries in the trunk of my van and I broke my middle finger. When I pulled my hand out from under the lip of the van, my finger looked like a bad case of arthritis! I drove down to the ER. A nice young man examined it and said, “I think it’s just dislocated, but we’ll take an x-ray to be sure.” I told him I’ve never had a break in my life and didn’t want to break my record.
