Triad coalition addresses various senior safety issues

In past columns, I have told you about the many programs and services that Office for the Aging offers to people over 60 and their families. In addition to programs and services, OFA is involved with many coalitions that address senior issues. One coalition called Triad is concerned with senior safety. Triad consists of a three-way effort among sheriffs, police chiefs in the county, and older/retired leaders who agree to work together to reduce the criminal victimization of older citizens and enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to this population. Triad provides the opportunity for the exchange of information between law enforcement and senior citizens. In 1988, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) signed a cooperative agreement to work together to reduce both criminal victimization and unwarranted fear of crime, thereby improving the quality of life for senior
