Well stated, and I agree entirely. Fortunately, the NRA contingent doesn't agree, (but, hasn't discovered your post). What you write is so reasonable that we must wonder why our neighbors whose homes have multiple guns (and that's the fact: fewer American own guns, but more who already own them want more?) don't want to compromise: allow them their guns, but under responsible conditions. I can't imagine a typical good standing American being opposed to the various gun regulations that are being proposed, in bi-artisan agreements, that would protect us from gun abuses that are otherwise reasonably avoided. The usual rant, that the Government is abusing the 2nd amendment and that registration will lead to confiscation, is simply without foundation. The Government, last I looked, is us, and there is no evidence of any conspiracy of the government to take over America by force that would require "the militia" to defend us against "the government" Sheer paranoia.
