Have, I'm not saying do nothing at all. I can only hope both governments have researched previous instances and how they were done so they can find the best way to merge. I'm worried they'll just shoot from the hip, and subsequently, everyone in the foot.

At least, when done properly, it does reduce layers of government, but I have absolutely zero faith in that happening in this case. I hope it does happen, but it will be too easy for them to eff this up royally so their buddies stay in place.

Have, because the greed/sloth/ineptitude of the "leaders" throughout NY, I don't think taxes will reduce one red cent. Consolidation will only, at the surface, reduce a layer of government. Supposedly.

1 county school district 1 county police force 1 county DPW
This is how they do it down south and they pay peanuts in property taxes compared to us. I've lived in both. Trust me on this one.

This is a small step in the right direction. Consolidation should include all 27 towns, 15 villages, 2 cities and 18 school ditricts into one operation centralized at the county level.

Not only that, Commentor, but a Village attorney that is a part-time employee, but gets full medical coverage, and is a department head. A part-time department head? Somebody tell me there's no cronyism there. If they do consolidate, throw out all of the people in office now, and start with new ones.

I totally agree the town should be taken over by the village. If it can be done by changing the lines, then do it. I'm sure Kevin Gaughan can give them some good advise. He is an exert in this field.

I have never understood the difference between the town of Pomfret and the Village. I clearly live in the Village. Yet my friends who live up the hill are considered in the town of Pomfret.
I support a consolidation. Unless someone has a good reason to keep them separate. Hope the meetings begin. Agree with the mayor..anything to save us money must be considered.

It's about time. Hiring a lawyer for business at the fire hall? What's wrong with the Village attorney. They are always hiring lawyers for this or that. What exactly do we pay a Village attorney for??
