NY NO.1 in stupidity. They claim a 20 round magazine can rapidly kill 20. A quick reload of three 7 round magazines can kill 21. Four=28. Five=35. Politicians are creating a scary world. All the while striving to disarm the citizenry. They're screwing up the our nation's economy, creating more crime in the process as people try to take what others have. Here in Dunkirk break-ins appear to becoming more common.

people do have the right to have a registered gun But why do you need an assault rifle, only cops and military need them.most killings are done with a stolen gun or a gun they bought in a different state

Maybe if we passed yet another law about addictive recreational drugs, usage would stop. Yeah, right!

Some people are so paranoid, they keep crying they are coming to get my guns.

You will still be able to have guns including long guns. How many bullets do you need to stop someone breaking into your house. ONE.

Some people think they need a tank or a surface to surface missile. Do you think those should be legal?

As all have said this is stupid--This is polical statement for every one from local to state to federal people to grab more power and take every thing from all of us people---- A 12 ga shot can do more damage that any gun that there is --thats why the police carry them in there cars--- yes a rifle is bad also pistols -but its knowing right from wrong-- my mom would clean a window --her last words were dont touch it--

In 1969 that bastion of liberalism, Richard Nixon, appointed Milton Eisenhower (Ike’s brother) to head the National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence. The commission called for federal “restrictive gun control legislation” including the banning of all handguns. Maybe Cuomo is channeling Milt...

In contrast, come to VA – we’re the opposite of NYS! (According to Mayor Bloomberg, I think we supply about half of your unlicensed weapons.) I received my carry permit in 21 days, and here a carry permit is also a conceal permit. And there are no background checks whatsoever at our gun shows, so your average felon or crazy can walk right in and walk right out with a semi-auto or whatever they want.

Apparently some people want the Virginia way to be the law of the land. You cannot deny we have too many guns in America. That is why we have so much more gun violence than every other developed country. And for those speaking about the 2nd amendment, if you want to belong to a militia, join the national guard.

I see some confused democrats here. Marcia who wants to think for us and teacher teacher who beives one bullet is enough. Dumbacratitis is surely contagious. I propose limiting women to 1 abortion as we have had more abortions than deaths from war, gun accidents etc. What did Cuomo not do ? give us choice in our schools, thank you Paul Christopher for those public employee unions. Dems believe in things as they have no mind. They are mentally ill themselves. From soft drinks to guns, all the libs focus on is things. They govern while buzzed !

"And there are no background checks whatsoever at our gun shows, so your average felon or crazy can walk right in and walk right out with a semi-auto or whatever they want."

Exactly what we need to change on the National level.

I do not think anyone wants someone with a felony record or a mental illness that includes paranoid, violent thoughts, to just be able to walk in and get a gun.

Sorry Steiner, no confused democrat here. Not even a democrat. Just someone who knows right from wrong.

I believe in less government however in this case nothing but a law will fix this matter.

You don't need anything more then a shotgun to protect yourself, go hunting or for sport. Anything more just means you are a paranoid nut on this subject. The government is not coming to take your guns.

Secondly the gun paranoid nuts better be careful what they wish for. The 2nd amendment may allow guns but that amendement says nothing about ammunition and a very simple way of limiting gun use would be to eliminate ammunition. Very simple fix.

hey liberals, I just saw a TV news clip that said the Sandy hook shooter did NOT take the AR 15 into the school ! Yes! He had four handguns with him ! Plus he was there earlier in the month and got into an altercation with school officials. Yes, right from NBC news. Those gun free zones really work , right libheads ! I believe an earlier poster said this very same thing and was scorned and now NBC is saying it. Libs , lets hear from you !

Let us look at a single unintended consequence of our newly signed protection. Background checks for ammo purchases in NY. This will raise the price of ammunition in NY. Retailers will pass this on to consumers. Consumers will go to neighboring States to buy their ammo. Neighboring States will reap the benefit while NY retailers bathe in the safety of the new legislation. Yup. Open for Business.

The thing that bothers me is the way this law was rammed through the legislature with little time for debate and discussion and all for the purpose of getting Cuomo to Washington in 2016. Maybe his popularity has gone to his head and he thinks he has dictatorial powers. I don't disagree that assault weapons should not be available for general distribution but what do we do about the 300 million guns that are already in the hands of private owners? I predict the law will have little if any impact on crime. Gun control has constitutional implications and therefore any new laws need to be initiated at the federal level. I strongly believe that as a society we have been desensitized to crime and killing because we see it on TV, movies and video games every day. Of course, that involves freedom of speech so it all gets back to the constitution. When the constitution was written they didn't have violence in the media and they didn't have assault weapons so maybe we just have TOO MANY RIGHTS

I question the genius of eliminating ammunition or skyrocketing the price. Unintended and most obvious consequence is the presence of black market smuggling. Secondly if the price was too restrictive people would be less inclined to practice. That has it's drawbacks, doesn't it?

Teacherteacher, short answer "Yes". I hope it never ahppens, but I'm 99.9999% confident that ONE bullet will be nowhere close enough to defend yourself. This woman shot SIX times. S-i-x. The guy lived long enough to drive away (or, if he wanted to, cause her furhter harm. Good thing he was alone, or she'd've been done.

Phil is right to a degree. We do have too many rights. We have the right not to work and collect welfare. We have the right to unemployment. We have the right to SSI and disability even if we know many of those on it shouldn't be. Many think we have the right to drive drunk. Many believe you have the right to come to this country illegal and nothing can be done with the 20 million that are here. Many of you writing believe we have the right to pay $9000 a day in taxpayer funds on a county home that could be run by a private company at no cost to the taxpayers. Those million illegals have a right to get free welfare, medical, schooling and even college. You have the right to burn the flag. Many listed in police reports believe you have the right to break the law, use drugs and get a free attorney when you are charged. We need some checks and balances on some of these rights to make sure they are not abused. Gun control is just another abuse that needs laws to protect everyone.

First of all, Marcia and Judi, your paranoia and lies about gun advocates is ridiculous. No responsible gun owner, or advocate, would want anyone to be able to go into a store and buy whatever they wanted without some kind of background check. Secondly, for the rest of you, There are no assault weapons sold in NYS. All they are is semi-automatics that look like assault weapons. You are confusing and perpetuating a falsehood. Automatic weapons were made illegal years ago, as were high capacity magazines. Thirdly, what I have in my possession in my private home is none of your GD business. I am not a threat to you unless you break into my home, or try to hurt my family or neighbors. What ever inanimate object is in my possession to accomplish the task is of no concern, except to the criminal, and you had better hope and believe that I want to be better armed than he/she is. To do otherwise would be impractical and just plain stupid.

"That is why we have so much more gun violence than every other developed country." There are 300,000 guns in the USA. a couple years ago, there were just over 9000 homicides by guns here. There were over 31,000 in South Africa, where they have under 6 million guns. In total gun deaths/yr, the U.S. consistently ranks between 5th & 12th, but still far from the top 5 in sheer numbers. But, I guess the lives in "not-so-developed" nations don't matter?

teacherteacher, you are confused. A fews years ago, a buffalo cop shot 15 rounds against a stray dog and missed. In the excitement of battle, many shots will be fired. They said the same thing to Patton, who shot too many artillery shells for the bean counters. I hope you are a bonafide teacher, the kids need you.And again libs, the press is reporting the AR 15 was left in the car ! Libs believe a lie always.
