I was a volunteer for many years but need to see the details before I'd be ready to support something like this.

The main problem I could see is if the requirement is simply five years in good standing then the time committment would vary greatly depending on the department.

For example, how many calls does Fredonia have compared to say department in the West Town of Dunkirk, and what is required to maintain good standing?

I don't know the specifics for either of these departments, but I do know that number of calls that Fredonia responds to dwarfs West Town of Dunkirks, but Fredonia's membership requirement were also much more strict.

This “use of tax dollars” is the kind of program I can get behind.

Volunteer firefighters donate so much of their time to their communities - - this is an excellent way for the people of NYS/Chau Cty to give something back.
