League celebrates 93rd birthday

Happy Birthday League and THANK YOU for all you do to help promote and protect fairness in elections.

Your many forums on local candidates has helped many of us become informed on the issues and where the candidates stand on them. We then become informed voters, voting on real issues and views.

Thank you for fighting and promoting fairness in voting for all. I wrote a letter to this paper after the 2004 elections and what I had heard while in Ohio. As an American I was appalled that ANYONE regardless of who they may cast their vote for, would be hindered from exercising that right. (Rep Conyers later conducted an investigation, resulting in the report What went wrong in Ohio. It is available on line for anyone interested)

During the SOTU address, we all got to applaud the woman, who is 102, who had to wait in line for over 6 hours just to cast her vote. Something that should NEVER happen in our country where EVERY vote is equally important.

For anyone concerned about so called voter fraud....

"A new nationwide analysis of 2,068 alleged election-fraud cases since 2000 shows that while fraud has occurred, the rate is infinitesimal, and in-person voter impersonation on Election Day, which prompted 37 state legislatures to enact or consider tough voter ID laws, is virtually non-existent."

Yet, many states continue to push for laws that would make it extremely difficult for many to simply exercise their CONSTITUTIONAL right to vote.

Our democracy depends on the ability for every citizen to freely and easily be able to cast their ballots. We should be working together to develop and implement ways to make it EASIER not harder to exercise that right.

To this, I sincerely THANK the league for taking a lead in protecting the right to vote for ALL.

You're correct Judeye, "voter fraud" was yet another unfounded, unsubstantiated and cowardly dog-whistle code used to justify the dissuasion of minority voting participation...and it didn't work.

The League has been a terrific institution for all, especially those willingly interested in fact-based political and civic participation.

Hmmm, the libs sure do love the 60's. The right to vote is at stake !Along with the planet, fracking etc. If Holder is defending it, it is a good bet he is on the wrong side. This tells me the LWV is not as non partisan as they claim. Are our schools falling behind ? Why cant we get choice in our schools ? Our children, our schools, ooops, those public employee unions.(christopher ?) So my impression of the LWV is that it is a leftist organization masquerading as nonpartisan. Or better, women raising our awareness, like a greatly enhanced elementary school teacher !Judeye, no man ever waited hours to vote, just a woman ? Ooops again, those sacred cows of the west, women ! How did i do libs ?
