It's not unusual to report the total number of bldg permits issued the previous year, and the revenue raised from the fees for these permits, but I find it curious that the city is now reporting the amt of money spent by taxpayers for such work.

Are property owners now required to submit proof to the city disclosing the exact amt it cost them to have such work finished?

The reason Dunkirk and Fredonia instituted roof permits is to make money. Plain and simple. It's a rep off!!!!!!

Mr. Zuraski said he is getting the contractors accostomed to getting the required permits before starting work. Now I am not a rocket scientist but what has Mr. Zurawski been doing since he was in office. Was he not checking to see if the contractors had the proper permits before beginning work? If that was the case the city lost thousands of sdollars. By not collecting fees. This folks is totally unaccepable. We as a city losing thousans of dollars because he was not doing his job. Has anyone questioned zuraski about this? Where is the mayor? Asleep behind his desk? The council? With a budget of $22 million we should expect better work from our employees. Especially the ones that bring money into the city coffers.

Why do we need a permit to replace roofing? Is that not normal maintenance? The bottom line is that the city is desperate for revenue to feed the monster they created and they will stop at nothing to raid your bank account.

Does anyone know if the city demands proof of how much money you spend on home repairs/improvements after the work is complete, and/or can it deny issuing a bldg permit if you refuse to comply?

A permit to replace a roof should be required everywhere. Why? To ensure that there aren't 2 or 3 layers already there which could cause structural problems, and to ensure that metal roofing is installed so as not to cause a hazard due to snow and ice.
