Unfortunately 'joew', you are extremely wrong. Please google 'SAD' and vitamin D deficiency in the northeast sometime. There have been multiple studies on it. Its recommended that from fall to spring to take around 2000IU of D3 up here, or go tanning. They have special lights as well you can sit under at home. How do I know? Well I am a nurse... what are you joew?

Also, because most people stay inside during the winter months, you have obesity issues in the area (so most get lazy and fat and don't want to take a walk outside). And they are also breathing in all the 'indoor' air which needs a humidity level of 35-55 to be healthy-plus if you have carpet and are constantly breathing in the allergens in the home...more issues if you don't have a purifier up here...

...so yes, living here is full of health issues. Many more than other areas of the country you could live in...that would probably be just as 'pretty'

Susan-good article. As a shutterbug winter is a great time to burn some megapixels especially if you have a B&W option on your equipment. And "wastelanddweller" grab a bottle of multivitamins since that will cure all your problems(you only need around 600 IU's),then pick up a camera and take a walk in the woods. Your depression will soon fade.(even on a cloudy day)

Chautauqua county is a wasteland, lady. The winter is hard on your whole body, your vehicles, and your checkbook. Its cold and nasty and most up here are Vitamin D deficient because of the lack of sunlight, causing depression (and aiding in other things including loss of bone density and macular degeneration)-leading people to smoke and drink to get by.

Nice try though.
