Well John Malcolm picked Fredonia over some "really swell places". I guess he has never been to Hilton Head, Naples,San Diego, or Travis Bay Michigan!! Yes it is nice during the summer (short) as it is. Who is working on getting the folks here is the real question. It will take more than asking those you know to come and enjoy.

commentor..HUH????
Do you not realize the many tourists we get here every year? Do you not realize that many of the homes owned in Chautauqua Institute are owned by people outside of our state? Do you not understand we have wonderful resort areas surrounding us that many people outside of this county come her specifically to enjoy?
Perhaps it is the old saying...grass looks greener on the other side. For me I KNOW the grass is very green here..and with some marketing could make us all a bit greener in the pocketbook if we did it right.

YES YES YES!!!
Great idea Margaret!! Who is working on marketing our region to attract tourists? Who is responsible for this? We have so much to offer we could attract tourists from a wide region.
Just take a look at Van Buren. Most of those who own summer homes are from Pittsburgh! Word got out years ago and it spread that it was a wonderful place to vacation. There are some people there that come as far as Virginia, Chicago..and Texas. And these are the only ones that I can think of off the top of my head.
Oh yes, we can..and should...do much more to market our region as a tourist stop. We have much to offer in Fredonia with the college and the music dept...Lily Dale..Chau Inst...the LAKE...so much that we could market. Maybe even college kids could work up some marketing plans as part of a class?
I love this region..and see much potential in expanding it as a tourist stop. thanks Margaret..great ideas
