A way to bring dairy back to life

March 21, 2013

The economy of upstate New York has been in decline and serial malaise for several decades. This has been the bane of several previous governors and their administrations. It would be also for Gov....

Mr. Wilson that article was fantastic....informative and insightful. You are an expert in your field, no pun intended. It's nice to think that what the farmers built over the decades can be resurrected as long as the politicians don't mess it up. Good luck to you and all the dairy farmers.

Nate I liked your article. especially the neutered farmer part.To me that is the eternal feminine and a together moment in action. I would not hope for the return of dairy farms. Libs hate cows as they belch methane. A great heat absorber, approaching water in that regard. We all know there is little water on the planet or in the air. Much more methane. Or so the democrats believe. It is interesting to drive around the area and see the abandoned dairy farms returning to forest. Good luck farmers, you will need it with our wacky govt we have. Look at the time they waste on sports teams .

Steiner, it was Ronald Reagan that first made an issue of cows spewing Methane, even claiming it was a larger cause of Global warming than fossil fuels. I don't believe St. Ronnie was a Democrat.

Given the globalization of production and markets, adavances in technology and market dynamics, and the ever-close scrutiny of commodities economics and controls -- whereas milk is a prime example -- there is no way possible (zero, actually) for Cuomo to even begin to bring back NYS' dairy economy to the days of yore. Cuomo knows this, so do his agricultural advisers -- he's only a voice in a huge milk market chorus.

The milk market, operations and production have moved decades beyond the quaint view of "dairy farm restoration".

I understand the yearnings of your views Mr Wilson, and no doubt they are very honorable, but they can't realistically and viably fit into this era.

Christopher, reagan was using science to put down democrats. How could anyone be against co2 when cows belch methane and other organics, huge heat absorbers. All ruminants do. He even mentioned why pine forests smell and look blue sometimes. Pine trees are chemical plants. The libs have twisted the comments and have declared war on the cow and life itself. pure and simple. Any chemist knows that any hydrocarbon, like methane is a huge heat absorber, far greater than CO2. Water tops them all. Reagan was scoffed at for his pine comments.
