TAKE THE BUDGET DIVIDE IT BY THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WE COULD SEND EACH OF THEM TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL AND SAVE TONS OF MONEY.

And a merger is just going to bring in more state money and not reduce the cost to the taxpayer at all. Real cuts not mergers are what is need. With a merger they are talking about a 30 dollar per property tax savings, what a joke.

Actually bulldog, we get more state money than we send there. New York and Long Island pays a huge amount of State taxes. Let them pay for the new schools.

concerned: you're absolutely right! ($43,700 per student). Where is the public's outrage to such excessive costs? Never mind the asinine spin of .50/hr per student, or that teachers' & admins' salaries are reasonable. We must look at the bottom line cost. OVER $43K PER STUDENT for students K-12 is beyond insane, but right just as destructive as all the other local public schools. Sadly, it won't stop until there's nothing left to take, then merges will occur as a temporary fix.
