@James...sorry for the late response. Here is a study from 2009-2011. This may help in answering some of your questions. Hope it helps! ****klingreport****/file_download/42/DelawareFireDepartments.pdf

Outofwny: Again where do you live and do they have fire districts paid by the residents that live in those districts?

@james: They do manyof the same fund raising as depts back home. All of the depts bill for their abmulance service. Many of them offer an "ambulance club" for 50.00 a year. BTW, it's hilarious that someone clicked on disagree on my comment. I didn't offer an opinion, just saying how things work here. Lol!

Outofwny: where are you located and where does their revenue come from to operate these Vol. Companies?

Interesting to see the Fire Service where I live now. The county has more population than Chaut. Co, also much more exposures and risk. There is not on single union paid fire dept. That's not to say there aren't paid EMT's. Each Vol Fire Inc. pays to have EMT's on duty with ALS provided by the County. Each Dept also participates in a retirement program for their members. All of these depts can make it out within 3-6 minutes with a full crew on an engine. If some of the guys and gals could see these departments down here and what they offer their volunteers, they would be amazed!

Hadenough. I believe if you read the whole article, you will find that the FIRE DEPTS. ARE OFFERING TO PAY THE COST OF THE EMT TRAINING. Classes are held twice a year in Fredonia.

1st off, hadenough your a idiot. 2nd The instructors for the NYS EMT training are in fact certified by NYS to instruct those individuals willing to put forth the effort and time to volunteer. The fire departments don't do the training other than the American Red Cross and the Heart Assoc for which they are also trained to do. It's individuals such as yourself that spout off about things without knowing what your talking about, that make peolple think twice about volunteering. For those of you that wish to volunteer, or would like to be educated as to the service please stop in this weekend to your local department. I have 20+ years of service both as a Fire Fighter/NYS EMT, I would love to talk with you, as would the many department volunteers throughout Chautauqua County.
