The delivery of welfare services is 80% of the budget. Much can be done to improve that. The welfare to work participation rate in among the lowest in the state. New appointments of department heads with the ability to improve our record must be made no matter which political party wins the election. Improvement in just this one area alone would help bring taxes down.

Commentor, you obviously have no idea of who would make up a control board. It's not a group of financial professionals and experienced business leaders, like it should be. No. It's political appointments of political hacks that usually do nothing to improve the situation.

County about a control board. The only way anything will be solved is by someone who has no connections, owes no favors and has nothing to gain or lose by their decisions. That means no campaigning, no campaign contributions.

Figures lie and liars figure. A $100K home in Chautauqua county pays about $4K in property taxes. The exact same home in Albany county would be valued at $300K and pay $10K in taxes. Using a percentage of tax to value (which is what is used when claiming our taxes are among the highest) Chautauqua county pays 4%, where Albany county pays 3.33%.
