The whole bed tax should be eliminated.

If a project is worth spending tax money on and you can justify the cost vs. benefit, then spend the money. But these legislators think a bed tax is like “free” money because they are taxing people who don’t vote for them. I think the reason the legislature likes this tax is because they say they are bringing recreation money into the community, but in fact they are siphoning it off before it hits the community. If there were no tax, then local retailers would get the recreation dollars and it would eventually be absorbed by the government as the dollars are taxed and re-spent and re-taxed. But this way, they can get the money before it is ever spent the first time. And vacationers get the feeling they are being fleeced by the county because a special tax has been created just for them. Do you really think this makes visitors want to come back? I doubt it.

and yet they keep getting voted in......how many people bother to even show up at these meetings? so our state reps just got our county reps to keep a tax on the books that in essence taxs one for sleeping. you have to pass it to know whats in it......

Just how does a state legislator bring a resolution to a county legislature? Could I bring a resolution forward and ask them to vote for it? None of this makes any sense.

First why is it when the people of Chautauqua County ask their state reps for help with a local issue they say they can't get involved, but now they can bring a resolution to the Leg? No one knew till the last minute so it HAD to be an emergency? No one know what is happening, they find a way around the first rule so they can bring it to the floor, and then they vote even though they don't understand it. Now they will have a meeting to see if they should have voted for it. And people still blame the employees for the disfuntioning government.
