Its my understanding these summer events are primarily funded by donations from local buisinesses. In previous years I know for certain corporate donations have amounted to tens of thousands of dollars.

I hate to sound like an old "scrooge" but what is it costing for the Bon Jovi tribute band? Is it true the city is spending $12,000 this weekend just for bands and how much of this is funded by taxpayers? The mayor speaks of a "much appreciated city employee" that is employed in the Development Department. Are there friendships and business activities involved that could present a conflict of interest? Is this the same employee that comproller DiNapoli refered to in his scathing report on the spending fiasco at the DLDC? Is it the same employee accused of distributing unauthorized monthly bonus payments to DLDC members? We anxiously await the HUD response to the comptroller's report. Maybe it's time to "drain the swamp" when "much apprciated employees" might not deserve the public trust.

This is a great event - I always stop by when I'm home in the summer visiting the folks.
