I am tired of everyone saying the same thing with no real plan!!!! Have you never traveled? You pay bed tax everywhere-many places much more than us. How about a Ct. Ex. who promises to work toward lowering the requirements that come from Albany instead of the employees that have to respond. Sounds like he is only running to create a problem and his 15 minutes of fame. We need real plans not political lip services

JoeW....I have RENTED cottages. I KNOW that we increase the rent to pay for the bed tax. Good grief..kinda like thinking that property taxes are not passed on in the form of rent increases to renters.

The CEO of our local Chamber keeps saying there are lots of local jobs, just not enough trained workers. Where is the training? Where is the connection between business needs and training of workers to fill those needs?

The center for government research, in another study, clearly indicates when a public nursing home is closed/made into a private facility, about 25% of the residents have NO where to go. Private facilities often do not take the more difficult, medical fragile, residents. Just go to the site to read the entire report.

Marcia, yes I'm sure the Republicans are wasting money they could use on their own candidates to fund a guy to run as an Independent. Phil - as much as I understand what you're saying in theory, why don't you run for the school board since those taxes are a heck of a lot higher than our county taxes. Our county has issues, no question, but there have been a lot of positives darkstar. Nothing happens overnight. Our country took quite a hit and I think Chautauqua County overall dealt with it better than many places. Maybe if we looked at the positives and built on those instead of knocking every politician as if they're all the same we'd get a lot farther. I don't know this guy either and none of his ideas are in sync with my views but kudos to anyone willing to throw their hat in the ring and deal with people tearing them apart in blogs like this.

Judeye-please tell us how the sale of the county home would devastate our economy, and how would it effect the residents? The bed tax is not included in the "rents",it is a separate line item. In closing, how would you create jobs here in our county, what specifically would you do to create jobs, what??? You keep saying jobs, jobs,we need jobs yet you advocate tax, tax, and more tax. Lets hear it Judeye, what would you do to create jobs???

He should go to other areas where they get most of their taxes from tourists. I believe the tax rate in Myrtle Beach is much higher than a few miles away. He is obviously just trying to make Johnson spend money on a primary. He is out of touch with the democratic party. Perhaps the republicans are secretly backing him.

You mean compared to the well dressed and highly intelligent people who have been destroying the County and State for the last few decades?

Saw him on YNN. I know appearances aren't everything, but he looks like an unkempt person of minimal intelligence.

Mr. kurtz has some good ideas but expanding th Sheriff's Department is not one of them. We already have about 300 law enforcement officers in a county of only 133,000 residents with no large cities. What is needed is a consolidation of all law enforcement into the sheriff's department. If the sheriff had control of all law enforcement personnel he would have the manpower and flexibility to assign manpower where need as needed. The system we have now is fragmented, costly and inefficient. The problem is that our leaders lack the guts and the intelligence to face the facts and tell the truth. The truth is that county government is too big and too expensive and that is a reason why we continue to see businesses close and people leave while thew quality of life continues to deteriorate.

Where are his ideas for creating JOBS? It is so easy to say..create jobs..but how? That is what we need to hear.

As for sheriff's office to investigate welfare fraud. Does he know that there are people in the DSS dept that this is their entire job. They are called investigators.

Sell the County Home? Once again a quick money maker with little to no thought of what it would do to our local economy and most importantly to those residents.

Bed tax? It is included in the rents that are charged. Has he looked into the average cost to rent a cottage around here? I think more than enough to cover the cost of this tax. This has not stopped tourists. Try to find a cottage to rent this late in the season. Not many available. They have been rented out since January.

Don't know this person. Looking forward to learning more about him. Would hope he is not just a bitter former business owner with an ax to grind. Increasing the Sheriff's dept doesn't impress me.
