Phil, you do pay for the Sheriff in your County taxes, but that does not mean he has to provide a dedicated car 24/7 to your community. I think that the Sheriff is great for small communities that want a dedicated car 24/7, I will keep my own local PD in my larger community!!!!

I think the interestnig thing is the Sheriff met privately wit the Dem caucus. Why? Shouldn't all of the legislators have been involved in that discussion if they were expected to make an intelligent decision?

Maybe the interesting thing is that Silver Creek residents are already paying for the Sheriff's Department and have been all along through their payments in county taxes. So, the question should be what additional costs will be incurred at the Sheriff's Department in the form of manpower and equipment and how do those additional costs (if any) compare with the $378,000 annual pyments that Silver Creek will be paying to the county? We only have these questions and issues bcause of the fragmeted structure of law enforcement in the county. There should be only one law enfocement agency in the county under the leadership of the sheriff with satellite stations as required for efficient response times. We pay twice for law enforcement, once at the local level and once through our county tax bill. It's part of that duplication of services that we all hear about and something should be done to fix it. Consolidation is the solution.
