In late May, the Business Council of New York issued a news release stating its opposition to the Dunkirk repowering project....

Mr Davis, you have to remember we live in a state that builds windmills and solar panels, unreliable as everyone knows, while a major 24/7 plant is up for possible closure. This is the democratic mind in action. If it is working, mess it up and call it a success. The business climate is so bad in NY, thanks to unions and democrats, the business council while allegedly looking out for the little guy is after something else. They want certain benefits written into the tax code . They give the appearance of saving the planet and helping poor people for this favor. The looney democrats are so powerful and anti business that this is the only way to survive, other than leaving the state. we see plenty of looney comments posted here about climate change, global warming, anti fracking ,sacred govt employee, etc. all from the minds of mentally ill people. But there are a lot of them and their influence is great.

NRG has a similar coal fired plant in Tonawanda. Why is nothing being said about the Huntley Plant? Are the costs of production at Huntley lower than Dunkirk and if so, why? NRG has a pilot propgram at the Dundirk Plant that requires an annual tax payment of about $8 million. Can the plant be cost effective and competitive while being taxed to death? How do the labor costs at the Dunkirk plant compare with other power producers and how will the conversion to natural gas impact those labor costs? There needs to be a serious discussion about costs at the Dunkirk Plant. Saving jobs and taxes are not the issue. Becoming a viable power producer is the issus.

Steiner you are correct. Far western N.Y. is fading away. Albany does not show too much concern.
Hey philjulian, take a drive around southern erie county. In it you will see a lot of grid work done by national grid. The huntley plant is now capable of taking the load that dunkirk used to handle. Since national grid supplies the wiring, they are doing their part to make sure we do not land up like a 3rd world country, the liberals dream, of blackouts and brownouts. That this has been unnoticed by so many for so long escapes me. Caravans of trucks, coils of wire, off road vehivcles. They are not doing this because of business and population growth. They believe and probably rightly so that the repowering will be denied . Why else would they do this ? Hey unlearned libs and end of worlders, why do you think there is so much natural gas ? Can your limited minds figure it out ? It is because of fracking, thats why. Canada will build a pipeline or 2 across its whole country to export. meanwhile, obama delays keystone because of deluded environmental concerns.those mentally ill democrats
