How about the Town charging Fredonia residents a higher tax rate than others in the Town? The Town is milking Fredonia for little or no return and has been for decades. They have a lot of nerve to complain about money THEY pay to Fredonia for anything!

Fire services respond to vacant property all the time - vehicle goes off the road, ATV accident, snowmobile accident, slip and fall, hunting accident, farming accident, lost individual, etc.

With the huge manpower shortage in the fire service, all the automatic mutual aid happening, and all of the excessive/duplicated equipment (do we really need 40+ Hurst tools?), it's time to start considering a county-wide fire service. Yes PhilJulian, this one makes sense.

The Town of Pomfret overcharges Village residents in taxes, Village residents pay for a majority of the Town operations. From Fredonia you get paid Firefighter/paramedics (advanced life support) on duty 24/7 plus 100 volunteers, no other area fire department offers that (Dunkirk is only basic life support). Lets start by cutting the taxes that the Village residents pay to the Town and get little in return for it.

Councilman Penharlow is ignorant, nothing ever happens on vacant land or vineyards, what a stupid statement!

I was pleased to see a Town official finally admit to the reality that the Town is mostly empty fields and vacant land. It makes you wonder why there is a need for any government at all specific to the town.

Perhaps Eckman doesn't realize SUNY Fredonia is also located in the Town of Pomfret. Consequently, a portion of the burden of it's presence rightfully should fall on the town. Scott Johnson could get ...visibility of the cost structure..." simply by reviewing the Village budget; available at the Village Hall.

So long as the Town demands that the Village pay 66+ percent of their salaries; and pay for lights and bridge maintenance when the town never sets foot in the village except to collect their stipends they have no room to complain.
