rosebud - your town taxes are your most affordable. In the town of Chautauqua, for a $100,000 home, you'll pay about $140 to the town, while your county bill will be close to $910. As far as rentals, one needs to fix the place up, raise the rent enough to eliminate the type of person you're talking about, and that will resolve the issue for the most part. Chautauqua County is a magnet for social services types and that's why we are paying so much in county taxes - all takers and no contributors.

Commentor - There are plenty of private sector businesses that are no better. Adelphia, Detroit auto makers, Enron, Ames, a whole bunch of banks, and many more are just a few that come to mind.

Just another case of people running a business with no business acumen. Town Boards, School Boards, Village govts, Town govts, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities have people running them that don't have a clue on how to run a business. If someone with knowledge speaks up they are ignored and overruled and that is why you don't get qualified people to run for office and serve on boards. They can't put up with the stupidity!!!!

Along with the School taxes, & the fact that an owner of rental property cannot find anyone that will pay rent for more than 3 months, & then live free in your property for another 3 months. I have to pay for a new school that should have never been built as the old one was a good solid building, I now have to worry about paying for the old school building again also. What were they thinking ????
