Dingdthe wicked witch, which old witch the wicked witch, ding dong the wicked witch is dead..just goes to show you you can't trust Marcia Merrins and the League of Women Voters. No doubt she'll whine and complain to her political party and her hubby to be appointed to a position now. Typical self motivated career politician wannabe.

Sandy has proven beyond any doubt that she has the welfare of the whole county in mind. There is no reason for her to endorse somebody without considering the continuation of her success in the Clerk's position. Sandy Sopak has integrity in spades! If she endorses Barmore, there is a reason for it. Maybe Barmore doesn't have the resumé that Cornell has, but Sandy must know something that we don't. Maybe he has integrity, and intelligence. Sandy would not steer us wrong in that regard. Local politics have little correlation with Rep/Dem issues nationwide. I'd take Sandy's recommendation no matter what party Barmore was with.

Let's peel back the curtain of Lori Cornell. First, she has issues with the truth and reality. She was a common intern in Washington, no more no less, if she was any good at what she did, obviously she would have stayed there.

Someone called her selfcentered and I think that is a fair characterization. She feels that because she is married to Chuck she is entitled to an office. She has a nasty attitude, is a pathalogical liar and has issues with reality. She is condensending and patronizing to the voters.

I had a chuckle in speaking with Sandy Sopak and her reiiterating the story of how when she retired, Lori invited herself to the party. Lori helped her carry things to her car and then asked Sandy for a picture. Lori then used that picture in the paper. How ridiculous can you get. I wouldn't trust Lori Cornell taking my order at McDonalds let alone the County Clerks Office. I'd vote Bernie Madoff or Marth Stewart first.

What this non-endorsement is really saying is they can't really endorse Barmore but refuse to endorse a democrat.

This race is a microcosm of American politics in the 21 century... When voting for the worse of two evils, you always end up with evil... just take a look at our last four Presidents for example...

The intern slipped this one in, while the gaggle was out of the office, wolfing down a Demetri's blue plate lunch special...

Cry baby Cornell is definitely NOT qualified for the job. She would be a disaster!!! I am not crazy about Barmore either but if Sandy recommends him I will vote for him. If she didn't think he could do the job I think she would just be silent. On her recommendation I will vote for him. I know Cornell can't fill her shoes and I don't think Larry will either but he is the lesser of two evils. If you don't want a complete disaster DO NOT VOTE FOR CORNELL!!!!

Cornell is a rude self-centered egomaniac who has herself confused with somebody important!!! She has the laugh of psychotic. She is not God's gift to Chautauqua County. Her personality disorder is incompatible with providing superior customer service. The voters should send a message to her that it is inappropriate and unacceptable to needlessly offend people!! I have spread the word about who and what Cornell is.

Bob, you don't stay in business and make money for 40 years because you provide bad service. That's absurd. Look around. There are plenty of other places to go - franchises all over. If they provided bad service and his customers never returned the doors would be closed. Nothing to say positive about Lori's work history so you slam the proven successful business leader with unverifiable claims. Well of course, makes perfect sense.

Mrs. Cornell's Washington job was as an INTERN. Wasn't this the position held by Monica Lewinski?

I think the lynchpin here is that should Larry be elected then Traci Kaminski(the deputy)will stay as the deputy. Should Lori be elected Traci is gone and with her the knowledge gained by working with Sandy. That makes it,at least for me,a clear choice,Larry gets the nod.

Yes and the experience he has resulted in people entering his business then NEVER returning and bad mouthing him because he treats people so poorly. Many very nice people stopped going to his business because of his rudeness. Let's not elect him county clerk.

Judging by Cornell's hissy fits and temper tantrums, that have been made public on the pages of this newspaper, I think you're off base notalways. You let the phony smile erase your memory perhaps. And if you think Sandy is so wonderful, why in the world would she endorse someone she doesn't think can do the job? That would ruin everything she worked so hard for. She's retiring. She doesn't owe anyone anything. She could sit back and be silent like Parment has been about his former employee. And what about all these high-ranking government officials she worked for? Not one of them has come out to publicly support her. Wonder why. I almost wish she'd get elected just so everyone could see her work ethic and lack of ability first-hand, since she has none that anyone can verify. But that would be a disaster for this county.

both candidates are suffering from the disease that the taxpayer works for the govt, not the govt working for the people. it is a common malady among democrats and is very contagious.

Sandy Sopek has served this county outstandingly. She should be thanked by every county taxpayer for all she has done. Sadly, most people don't even understand how much she was responsible for and how much she accomplished.

Having said that, I am not a "follow my party" kind of person. I think that Barmore will not be the best candidate for the job as he lacks Sandy's skill in working with people to find solutions. He is more of "I'll tell you what to do" kind of guy. This is a very important part of government and the new clerk needs to be flexible and be willing to listen to experienced staff. I am sure being of the same party he has been given a lot of press sound bits from Sandy to help look like he will do a good job, but I am not convinced.

Well they got one thing right. Sandy Sopak has done a great job. I remember how bad the DMV used to be and everyone complained until she got elected and fixed it up. Now we don't think much about it. We won't think about it much more either if the right person gets elected. I've been reading about both candidates. Cornell's press releases don't tell me anything about how she can do the job. There aren't any details, just a lot of political phrases without explanation. Barmore at least has explained a lot about the office. He seems to understand it better and he has experience in that line of work. I'm not really sure what Cornell has actually done. From what I can tell she hasn't had much of a job. I'm sure Sandy Sopak doesn't want all her hard work to go to waste and she endorsed Barmore. So, I guess if the paper isn't going to endorse, I trust the person who knows the job best. He seems to have a lot more qualifications for the job. I think Cornell is in over her head.
