Property tax freeze comes with strings

December 17, 2013

As we noted on Sunday, those who continue to work together will reap rewards through New York state when it comes to funding. That also was the message sent by state Gov....

People. Cuomo could offer 20 year no tax and it won't work. Why? One word unions. Companies setting up down South also get tax free years and they get labor at a cheaper rate because the unions do not get a foot hold. Any businessman knows this. Add to this the high cost of living, gas, housing and it really is a no brainer why NYS is in the shape it is. Cuomo is so desperate that he wants to tax the Indians. What does that tell you about the financial status of the state. The glory years are long gone. And NYS did not keep up with the changes. So folks it is what it is and Cuomo ain't gonna change anything. Just tour the city and see the decay and neglect. All this with one of the highest tax rates in the nation.

phil, you and i stated the obvious. Notice how it was ignored by the other liberal posters. freeze our high taxes ? thats exactly what the libs want. the same amount of money for as long as they can.this is so obvious , the libs must think we are as dumb as the posts they make here. How do states do it without an income tax ? Why does erie county give 2/3rds of its budget to buffalo with 1/3rd the population ?

What good does it do to freeze property taxes in a state where property taxes are already among the highest in the nation? There is only one realistic solution to our taxing problem and that solution is consolidation and merger of local taxing authorities. In other words, reducing the size and cost of government. So, why is this not already being done? It's because it takes political courage and let's be honest. Most politicians are not there to be public servants. They are there because politics is a career with good pay and good benefits for those are able to survive on election day.

commentor, the rich are gonna pay for it.Look at detroit, a model of liberal failings. Riots , 50 square miles of wasteland to go green. unions and public employees sank it. Cronig is proud. cronigs famous answer, the taxes are low because someone else somewhere is paying them and that someone has someone else paying them. Around and around cronig goes ! dont worry commentor, soemone else wil pay the bill , with an extension cord to boot. Obama and crew are chasing rich people around the world to cough up money for the dumbocrats.the swiss have even capitulated to obama .

Medicaid and welfare are out of sight. The Gov is giving new start ups 10 yrs tax free. State pensions outrageous. Must be the money fairy is going to pay for all this.

All government programs come with strings, so why should this be any different?

As for the tax relief promised by the state, if they truly wanted to help the taxpayers in this state they would simply lower taxes, but instead they want to play the savior and give us back a fraction of the money they stole from us.

If I steal your TV and dvd player but return your dvd player a few months later would you think I was a great person for doing so? That's basically what happening here.

yet another gimmick from the liberals. We have some of the highest taxes in the country and behold, our dumbacratic leaders say we will freeze them. for this we are to genuflect and say thanks gov cuomo, you sure are looking out for us. meanwhile other states have energy booms. NY sits on Marcellus shale and the good governor says , I will freeze your taxes. No mention of an actual decrease, just a freeze. the tax strangling continues in NY. Thanks public empolyee unions !

Isn't it convenient that when the State adopted the tax cap law, they also proposed mandate relief to local governments - then never followed through with that relief. Local taxes would go down if the State removed some of these mandates and expenses - one huge one being the massive increases for employee retirement. Another being chargebacks for Medicaid. This mess would be cured if the State just did their part.
