Steiner completely lost it, in the post "Helping with hair" about his wonderful insult on a young girl with cancer.

Steiner, no big PBS word of the day ? The sun puts out more than science believes.....Wow, that was an impressive statement, and the universe is not what everyone believes then either. How ever we do know for hard facts the sun does put out UV and IR rays don't we. Come on I am dying to see your super radioactive killing machine !!!!

cade, you are being stupid again. the sun emits far more than what science believes ..... This shows you dont know a stitch of what i said about the world of heisenberg and debroglie waves. Or even strong force, the binding energy in the atom. in short, you know almost nothing ! "In my buildings right now are machines that can alter the rate of radioactive decay." ........................................................................... well save the world stiener, stop all the radioactive material going to Yucca mountain right now. You say you can, put up or shut up !!!! we the world wants to rid ourselves of radioactive pollution. So do it Stiener, like you said you can !!!!!!!!!!!

I did some work with the FAA years back, including interaction with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association. Reagan may have fired them 30 years ago, but now the union is as strong as ever.

Example: The union brought some work to a standstill – at a cost of $30M – because half of all controllers are near retirement age (hired post-Reagan), and they didn’t want to work with new software . The union told FAA HQ they were “too busy training.” So 1,300 people sat for a month.

Average ATC pay is $122k. If you’re an ATC in Boise, you’re on the lower end of the scale; but if in NYC, Chicago, etc., average pay is $160k. By contract, only 4 hours of an 8-hour shift can be spent “on scope.” The other half of the workday is for training, paperwork, napping, etc.

Pension? 40-50% of your “high last 3 years.” After just 20 years, by contract, a pension cannot be <50% of average pay. Currently, 1,163 retired ATCs receive pensions >$100k/yr.

If you’re gonna be a Fed, be an ATC.

Kraft foods DID close because of the union. They had a vote in 84 that just barely passed to keep the union, the next year it voted to keep the union by a landslide. Shortly after they announced the closing. It was either the last or 2nd to last union plant Kraft owned when they finally closed in 1986. And they only made $4 million dollars the previous year.

You know the great thing about America? America provides income mobility where you can earn more if you want to. You can change jobs or open a business; you can acquire wealth. There were 53,000 new millionaires in America last year yet we have a president who vilifies those who do work to acquire wealth.

Those who cry about income inequity are the “gimmie people” They’re the ones who want what others have earned without having to earn it for themselves. They want it taken from others even if they themselves can’t have it.

joew, don't you remember that Reagan fired all the Air Traffic Controllers who went on strike in violation of the law? That's probably what Marcia was talking about but I doubt she would mention the union members in violation of Federal Law and their own contract with the government.

Sorry joew, but the decline of the middle class has been going on for over 25 years, ever since Reagan started the assault on unions and the enrichment of the rich. Since 1980, the increase in income for the top 1% was over 900 times more than the increase for the lower 90%. the top 1% in the world hold over half the world's assets. This is not just about the rich and poor in this country, but the takeover of the world's economy. Open your eyes.

JUDEYE - the truth is that since the implementation of Obamacare many fewer Americans have health insuraqnce and the whole system is in danger of collapse because young people are not buying into it. As for income inequality I continue to believe that a major factor in the decline of our middle class is trade agreements that resulted in the loss of our manufacturing base. Just look at what we lost in our own community. True Temper, Great Lakes Color Printing, RoblinSteel, Alumax, Van Raalte, Alco, AL Tech, Kraft Foods and the list goes on and on. This is just the losses in our own community. Can you imagine the impact nationwide on our middle class? So, why do we manufacture overseas? I blame American and union greed coupled with a dysfunctional federal government. We used to have good family sustaining jobs in Dunkirk. In today's world if you don't work for government you are going to starve.

Obamacare is causing healthcare costs to rise and the new taxes hit the middle class.

and from a friend of mine here who owns their own company....first time in over twenty years they have HEALTH INSURANCE!!!

The primary purpose of the ACA was to help people who did not have health insurance the ability to get it at reasonable costs. It is WORKING. It has helped my family, my friend's children who can remain on their insurance, many of my friends who have pre existing conditions, friends and family with C and other terminal illness with NO CAP, and many of my friends who had NO health insurance until ACA

Yes I voted for him...worked to see him elected and then re elected...and am thanking him today for ACA..IE OBAMACARES.

joew.."many companies pay moving expenses for those who really want to work"

Oh..you mean like Altech? Like Ethan Allen? etc etc

I worked directly with those affected by the closures. NONE of them were offered moving expenses or jobs in other locations.

Would you please tell me the companies who closed here that offered jobs and moving expenses to take those jobs?

Rather, what the GOVERNMENT did offer them was real help. Yes the government with programs that included such things as job training, education, resumes, skills reviews, support networking groups, etc.

Government is not all bad.

By the way, how many people who are on assistance..or SNAP in our County..ARE WORKING? Do you have any idea?

Steiner, you mean I am igmorant to this E=MC2 theory.................................................The mass (from the above example) would be 3 kilograms and the speed of light(c) is 299,792,458 meter per second. So c² = 89,875,517,800,000,000 mtr²/sec² which rounds (for purposes of this discussion) to 9 x 1016 mtr²/sec². So, the energy equals 3 kg (mass) x 9 x 1016 mtr²/sec² (c²), which equals 27 x 1016kg • mtr²/sec² which equals 2.7 x 1017Joules. This is almost 2 billion times the energy we obtained from the "ordinary" burning of 1 gallon of gasoline. ............................................................................ Anything else Steiner ?

Stiener all you do is mock everyone here. We are in your words Ignorant, simple, stupid, small minded ect, ect. Yet when I show YOU real articles from real Physics website you laugh and call it rediculos. How simple minded are you, the man who saved 10,000 people ( as you say ) because of your invention. Do you get the part about INVENTION. You think nothing more will ever be invented, nothing it all stops, all progress stops because you say it wont work. Well Stiener perhaps you should open your mind and think outside the box,(even thought you already say you do that). You have proven time and again you think inside the box. Or are all those other real Physicist wrong on everything I have shown you the past month. You claim you are a chemist, but you act like a 15 year old bully all day long. Enjoy your foot in your mouth a little longer please, it fits just right.

"Supercapacitors" take the energy-storing abilities of capacitors (which store electrical charge that can be quickly dumped to power devices) a step further, storing a far greater charge in a much smaller package. In AIP Advances, researchers describe the possibility of fabricating a new class of high heat-tolerant electronics that would employ supercapacitors made from a material called calcium-copper-titanate, or CCTO, which the researchers have identified for the first time as a practical energy-storage material. The capacitors of electronic circuits function something like batteries – storing electrical charge that can be quickly dumped to power devices like camera flashes. So-called "supercapacitors" take the energy-storing abilities of capacitors a step further, storing a far greater charge in a much smaller package.
