March 15, 2014

Several years ago when the city of Dunkirk reached a new labor agreement with Local 616 Dunkirk Professional Firefighters Association, the union agreed to the elimination of two positions....

"the dog is a pit bull, it is devouring the city and no one has the guts to stop it." Phil, you do realize, don't you, that you just said exactly what I said, it's the people in control you should be angry with, NOT the UNION!

CHRISTOPHER - the problems with city unions existed long before Ahlstrom became chief. Blaming the dog for being fat? Keep in mind that in this case the dog is a pit bull, it is devouring the city and no one has the guts to stop it.

It all rots from the head down. The fire chief can make all the excuses he wants but everyone in this town knows that this department is the biggest joke in the area. Wuerstle had it right years ago when she tried downsizing the dept. she got no help though and was run out of town. Too bad none of our council or mayor has the guts to stand up to them. Talk is easy. Keep hiding behind a pen and microphone Kiyak and co. We know nothing will come of this and we'll see the same results next year and every year after.

Well how about that. During contract negotiations the city was told that the FD could operate with two less positions without having an adverse affect on services. Now we have the FD putting in overtime to cover the two positions due to illness. How many paid fire fighters are on duty at any one time. This should if nothing else convince the common council to close one fire station. Amazing how things come full circle and bite the tax payer.

How surprising, tjefson and Phil blame Unions. Not the Chief, not the people who authorize all spending, including salaries and benefits for their employees. It's sort of like blaming the dog for being fat and under exercised.

Its getting to the point where why we don't just get rid of all the public employees and burn the entire city down and build from scratch with the money we will save from paying the thieves. Unbelievably, one problem would be to rebuild, it would have to be at prevailing "union scale" wages. So much for the free market. These people have you surrounded, there is no way out but leave the state before they take it all.

Raping and robbing the taxpayers is nothing new with Dunkirk unions.
