Very interesting article.

I found this regarding Irish Women..."Recognizing their own successes as single women, most decided to postpone marriage and taught their daughters to do the same. In fact, the majority of the most successful Irish women in America never married, and a significant number of them were nuns."

In my Irish grandmother's family which included 5 girls (and several boys, they were Irish Catholic after all)..she was the only girl to marry! The others worked..and gave much to the church and to charity. I remember one of my great aunts sitting for hours on end with this little hole puncher translating books into braille. It was the way. To give back for the good of the community and take only as much as you need.

And today we celebrate the Irish with morning to night drinking! There's a good move to contradict negative stereotypes!
