Herbert F. Bantle, active in North Collins

NORTH COLLINS - Herbert Francis Bantle, 78, of North Collins died Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005)
Mr. Bantle's life was an example of generous service to others. After graduating from North Collins Central School in 1945. he attended Bryant and Stratton Institute. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946 to 1947 and again from 1950 to 1951. He then enjoyed a distinguished career in the Erie County Sheriff's Department (1953-1958) and the U.S. Postal Service, including serving as North Collins postmaster from 1959 to 1985. In addition, he held volunteer leadership positions in North Collins American Legion Post 1640, North Collins Volunteer Fire Department and various ministries at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He also served as president of the board of trustees for North Collins Central Schools and was a member of the board of directors for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services for Western New York. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rosalie (Fazzolari) Bantle; four children, Gail Hartin, Paul J. Bantle, Joseph G. Bantle and Carol Wittmeyer; three sisters, Kathryn Hamberger, Norma Johengen and Margaret Muehlbauer; and seven grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Spangenberg. Arrangements are by the Wentland Funeral Home, North Collins.
