18 NY schools get national recognition

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Eighteen schools in New York are among those being recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools by U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan.

The schools, announced Tuesday, are chosen either for overall academic excellence or progress in student achievement. Nationally, 236 public and 50 private schools will be honored at a ceremony in Washington in November.

In New York, the recognized schools are: Bayville Elementary School; Cherry Lane Elementary, Suffern; Elsmere Elementary, Delmar; Harrison Avenue Elementary, Harrison; Kramer Lane Elementary, Plainview; Leo Bernabi School, Spencerport; Maple West Elementary, Williamsville; PS 46, Oakland Gardens; PS 66, Richmond Hill; PS 199, New York; PS 221 Little Neck; PS 222 and PS 247, Brooklyn; Shaw Avenue School, Valley Stream; South Davis Elementary, Orchard Park; Tesago Elementary, Clifton Park and West Side School, Syosset.
