Upstate NY man gets prison for killing mother

September 28, 2013
Associated Press

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) — A New York man has been sentenced to 19 years to life in prison for beating his mother to death and hiding her body under a shed at their home outside Saratoga Springs.

Joshua McWain, of Greenfield, was sentenced Friday. He pleaded guilty in August to second-degree murder. Saratoga County prosecutors say the 28-year-old killed his 59-year-old mother, Carol Stanford, with a floor buffer during an argument last October.

Her body was found buried in a root cellar beneath the shed after concerned neighbors reported her disappearance.
