2 held in shooting of toddler in NYC suburb

YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) — Police have taken two teens into custody in connection with the accidental shooting of a 3-year-old girl in the arm in suburban New York.

A 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were detained after the shooting. According to the Journal News ( ) the younger boy is expected to be charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, and the older teen faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon. They were not identified.

Police say Friday the toddler is recovering at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx from a single gunshot wound. Her injuries are not considered life threatening

Witnesses told the newspaper that a gunshot was fired as a group of teenagers roamed along a busy avenue.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
