CLAY, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a 54-year-old man is dead after being hit by a car as he walked with his daughter along a central New York road.

Investigators say Joseph Roderka of Liverpool was rushed to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse after he was struck shortly after midnight Saturday morning. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Nichole Roderka wasn't hurt.

Police tell local media outlets that a 19-year-old driver told investigators he wasn't sure what he'd hit as he drove on Oswego Road. He continued home to tell his parents he'd hit something, and they returned to the scene to find state troopers and sheriff's deputies there.

Investigators found no indications that alcohol was involved and no tickets have been issued. Police say the man and his daughter were wearing dark clothing.
