NEW YORK (AP) — The front runner to be the next mayor of New York City is a fan of his hometown teams' fiercest football foe.
Democrat Bill de Blasio (BLAH'-zee-oh) was born in Manhattan but grew up outside Boston.
He said in an interview Thursday that his NFL allegiance lies in Massachusetts.
De Blasio grew up with the New England Patriots. He says he has "a deep feeling for that team" and has to be "honest" about it.
The Patriots are a division rival of the New York Jets. They faced the New York Giants in two recent Super Bowls.
De Blasio is also a Boston Red Sox fan.
A spokeswoman for Republican nominee Joe Lhota (LOH'-tuh) says he roots for both the Giants and Jets.
