MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — A mentally disturbed suburban New York woman who drowned her three young children in a bathtub is due in court next month to ask a judge for a cut of the kids' $350,000 estate.
Nassau County Surrogate's Court Judge Edward McCarty ruled Thursday that Leatrice Brewer will be brought from an upstate psychiatric facility to testify about her request.
Brewer was found not guilty because of mental disease or defect in the 2008 deaths of her children.
Her attorneys say she shouldn't be subject to laws that bar convicts from profiting from their crimes.
The fathers of the dead children settled a lawsuit with the county after they claimed Social Services workers failed to properly monitor Brewer and her children.
The judge scheduled a Nov. 6 hearing on the matter.
