ZURICH (AP) — FIFA President Sepp Blatter says a decision on which months to play the 2022 World Cup in Qatar might not come until 2015.
Blatter says he "cannot contradict" board executive committee member Michel D'Hooghe, who told The Associated Press that a decision was expected in 2015 "at the earliest."
Blatter's ruling board ordered a "very deep consultation" Friday into shifting the dates to avoid Qatar's summer heat. Soccer leaders, sponsors and broadcasters will report after the World Cup in Brazil next July.
The FIFA president says: "Let us first play the World Cup in 2014 with an easy conscience."
Blatter reiterated that the 2022 World Cup will be played in Qatar, dismissing speculation the tournament could be moved from the tiny desert nation.
