BAY SHORE, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island woman is accused of conning at least two elderly men out of half a million dollars in cash and vehicles.

Prosecutors say Lisa Ferkovich faces grand larceny as a hate crime charges.

Suffolk County Thomas Spota says it's the first time his office has alleged age as the basis for a hate crime.

Prosecutors say Ferkovich had served seven months in jail on similar charges in a case involving an 89-year-old Manhattan man.

Her attorney disputed the new charges. According to Newsday ( ), he said the alleged victims were cognizant of what was happening and there was no coercion. He says the Manhattan case was very different. He didn't elaborate.

An indictment on the new charges was to be unsealed Tuesday.
