NEW YORK (AP) — A road that runs through New York City's Central Park has been named after Mayor John Lindsay.

The lower loop of Central Park Drive is now called "John V. Lindsay Drive."

It was renamed in a ceremony on Monday.

As mayor, Lindsay closed the drive that runs from West 72nd Street to East 72nd Street to car traffic on summer weekends.

Lindsay served as mayor between 1966 and 1973. He died in 2000.

His daughter, Margie, told WCBS-AM ( ) that her father loved riding bikes through the park.
