State trooper injured in crash on NY Thruway

December 17, 2013
Associated Press

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (AP) — New York State Police say a trooper is in critical condition after his patrol vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer on the Thruway in the Mohawk Valley.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 remain closed between exits 27 and 28 early Monday morning, nearly 10 hours after the accident occurred in the city of Amsterdam, 30 miles northwest of Albany.

Police say the trooper was inside his cruiser while it was parked behind a car pulled off the highway's right shoulder at Exit 27 around 8:25 p.m. Monday. Troopers say a tractor-trailer traveling in the right lane left the highway and hit both vehicles, pinning the other motorist's vehicle under the truck.

The trooper's name hasn't been released. The condition of the car driver isn't known. The truck driver wasn't hurt.
