Atty: Biden's niece in treatment after NYC arrest

December 17, 2013
Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — A lawyer says a niece of Vice President Joe Biden is undergoing treatment after she was charged with scuffling with New York City police.

Attorney Ira London wouldn't specify what sort of treatment Caroline Biden is undergoing or where she's pursuing it.

She was excused from a court date Tuesday in her misdemeanor resisting-arrest case.

London and Manhattan prosecutors both say they hope to resolve the case at her next court date, Feb. 5

The 26-year-old Biden was arrested Sept. 17, after her roommate called police about a rent dispute. A criminal court complaint says Biden hit an officer in the chest and resisted being put in a holding cell.

The vice president's office has declined to comment on the case. His brother James Biden is Caroline Biden's father.
