OLEAN — The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Local 210, will conduct recruitment from May 19 through April 30, 2009 for 15 roofer apprentices.
Applications will be available Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following New York State Department of Labor offices: 23 E. Third St., Jamestown; 323 Central Ave., Dunkirk; 175 N. Union St., Suite 4, Olean; and at the Allegany County Employment and Training Complex, 7 Wells Lane, Belmont. They are also available from Jamestown Roofing Co., 119 Clifton Avenue, Jamestown and A.W. Farrell & Sons, 3761 E. Lake Road, Dunkirk. The committee requires that applicants:
Be at least 18 years old.
Have a high school or general equivalency diploma — transcript required after acceptance.
Have a valid driver’s license — apprentices will be required to drive company vehicles.
Have reliable transportation to and from work sites and instruction facilities.
Be physically able to do the work.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
