Earth Day at Lake Erie State Park successful

POSTED: May 14, 2008

BROCTON — Lake Erie State Park hosted an Earth Day celebration on April 26 which resulted in volunteers planting 343 trees.

Volunteers celebrated Earth Day by cleaning the park, planting trees and learning more about Earth Day and how to be "green" in their everyday lives.

The event was attended by people of all ages who displayed great volunteer spirit, while enjoying the family friendly atmosphere.

Tree planting was the biggest success of the day with the planting of 343 trees made up of five different species, including Red Oak, Black Cherry, Black Walnut, White Pine and White Birch.

Lake Erie State Park is part of the statewide system of parks and historic sites managed by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. For more information about New York State Parks, visit www.nysparks.com.
