Westfield Family Physicians, PC is a strong force for healthcare needs in the Chautauqua County area that has grown stronger with the addition of Dr. Matthew Wehr to the staff.

Dr. Wehr comes from New Paris, Pa., with eight years of experience in Family Medicine. As Northern Chautauqua County is qualified as a Health Provider Shortage Area (HPSA), Westfield Family Physicians feels blessed to have Dr. Wehr join the group so that it is better able to meet this area's population healthcare needs.

"I am excited to join the Westfield Family Physicians group on Aug. 1," Dr. Wehr said. "Their approach to medical care, sabbatical time for mission work and the rural location attracted us. I enjoy the challenges of outpatient medicine with the goal of preventing illness and decreasing the need for hospitalization. I also look forward to having the opportunity to train future providers by working with the University of Buffalo School of Medicine third year medical students who rotate through the WFP office as part of their Family Practice training.

"My wife Nancy and I have felt very welcome in our visits to Westfield. We would like to thank those who have helped us and made us feel welcome. We bought a house in Westfield and believe that this will be a great place to raise our 2-year-old daughter, Emily. We have enjoyed several church services here and look forward to many other activities that the local area has to offer. Westfield and the surrounding area will allow us to continue our interest in hunting and fishing. Steelhead fishing will be a new challenging addition to our activities."

Dr. Wehr graduated from Medical School at Pennsylvania University College of Medicine and went on to Conemaugh Memorial Medical in Johnstown, Pa. for his residency work. He is Board Certified in Family Practice. Dr. Wehr shared that his parents served as missionaries in Kenya as he was growing up. He developed a love for the mission field and was able to work three months in Tenwek Hospital in Kenya as part of his medical school training.

Dr. Wehr is accepting new patients at the Westfield Family Physicians office location on Main Street in Westfield beginning Aug. 1. For an appointment, please call 326-4678.
