Sophia (Jinhua) Ji and Blaine Christopher Dowd, formerly of Fredonia, were united in marriage on Monday, July 7, 2008 in a sunset service at Burchfield Park in West Seneca.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guigen Ji of Wuxi, China. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Morgan D. Dowd of Fredonia.
The bride wore a Qipao - a traditional Chinese Mandarin dress with choker pearls. She is a graduate of Shanghai Jiao Tong University with a dual degree in English and mechanical engineering and currently is a mechanical equipment engineer, Global Supply Systems with Praxair in Buffalo.

The groom holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Clarkson University and an MBA from the University at Buffalo. Dowd was a captain in the United States Army and served in the 402nd Civil Affairs Battalion (attached to the 1st Marine Division) Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge in 2003. He also works at Praxair as a project manager, Global Supply Systems.
A reception celebrating the marriage will be held in Wuxi in the fall.
