ALLEGANY - In a tough defensive battle, the Dunkirk Marauders (0-2-1,1-2-3) tied the Allegany-Limestone Gators 0-0.

Defensive standouts for the Marauders were keeper Nate Novelli, who had seven saves and Co-captain Scott Ebert.

"Novelli did an exceptional job for us," Dunkirk coach Jim Enser said. "Our defense was anchored by Ebert."

"It was really a tough game," Enser added. "Allegany-Limestone has been the best team in our conference for about four years. They haven't lost a conference game in awhile. Last year we lost to them 1-0, then tied them 2-2. To play them to a scoreless tie on their own field was quite gratifying."

Enser also mentioned freshman Tyler Gajewski who saw a lot of action in the game.

"Gajewski came in as a reserve and just played an outstanding game at central mid-field for us."

Gator goalie John Reed made three saves on the night.

"I only had him (Reed) credited with three saves," said Enser. "But, he made so many plays, snaring balls before they became dangerous."

The Marauders play a night game on Thursday at Southwestern's brand new turf stadium.

Olean 3, Fredonia 1

OLEAN - Louis Proto scored two goals for the Olean Huskies as they defeated the Fredonia Hillbillies 3-1 in Division 1 action.

Proto scored with 18 minutes left in the first half to put the Huskies up.

Fredonia countered as the first half came to a close when Kevin St. George finished a rebounded header making the score 1-1 at halftime.

The Huskies scored early in the second half with a goal by Proto and they never looked back.

Olean added to the lead as Dan Massaro scored with 13 minutes left.

Trey Knot occupied the net for Olean, and Kyle Scudder was the keeper in the loss for Fredonia.

Division 2

WACS 7, Franklinville 0

WESTFIELD - Robson Knappenberger scored a hat trick and Tyler North and Steve Cochran combined for a shutout as Westfield (8-1, 5-1) downed Franklinville 7-0 Tuesday during CCAC Division 2 boys' soccer action.

Jared Alonge got the Wolverines on the board first before Knappenberger scored three consecutive goals for the hat trick and a 4-0 Westfield lead.

Eain Cockram gave the Wolverines a 5-0 lead, Nate Kitchen gave them a 6-0 lead, with Jacob Genthner tallied the last Westfield goal for the 7-0 win.

"Once we started scoring the flood gates opened," Westfield head coach Matt Eggleston said.

Knappenberger, Ben Holt, Robbie Wilson, Derrick Smith and Jake Harp all added assists while Mike Riley chipped in with two.

North made four saves for Westfield while Cochran added three. Tim Kuhn collected 12 saves for Franklinville.

Randolph 5, CVCS 1

SINCLAIRVILLE - Jerrold Roosa's hat trick helped Randolph down Cassadaga Valley (2-5-1, 0-5-1), 5-1 in CCAC Division 2 boys' soccer on Tuesday.

Roosa tallied the only goal of a hard-fought first half, taking an assist from Mark Millman eight-minutes into the game for a 1-0 Cardinal lead.

Cassadaga Valley outshot Randolph 6-3 in the first half, but couldn't push any of them past Cardinal keeper Ryan Balkema.

"Their goalie was very good," Cassadaga Valley head coach Jill Purol said. "We just couldn't get the perfect shot, but we definitely dominated the first half."

The Cougars were less than dominant in the second half however, as Randolph turned the tables, getting 16 shots off on Cougar goalie Bryce Mason, scoring on four of them.

Roosa scored unassisted seven-minutes into the second half before Garrett Hanson converted a Josh Wolfe pass nine minutes later for a 3-0 lead. Roosa added his third goal of the game with 17-minutes left for a 4-0 lead before Ryan Zybert scored unassisted for Cassadaga Valley, cutting the Randolph lead to 4-1.

"Their frontline was the strongest aspect of their team," Purol said of Randolph.

Millman finished the Cardinal scoring on an unassisted goal with 8:56 left in the game.

Balkema made 10 saves in picking up the win while Mason finished with 14 saves.

Silver Creek 2,

Catt.-Little Valley 1

SILVER CREEK - The Silver Creek Black Knights (4-2, 6-2-1) scored two goals in the last 16 minutes to beat the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Timberwolves (2-3, 3-6), 2-1, in a Division 2 conference game.

The first half was at a standstill until Rigel Johson of the Timberwolves scored on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box which was set up because of a dangerous play penalty by Silver Creek with 14 minutes left in the first half.

"He (Johnson) played a quick ball before our defense had time to set up a wall," Black Knight coach Eric Johengen said. "He was johnny-on-the-spot. He reacted very quickly, and our defense didn't have time to set up."

Silver Creek trailed much of the second half then Catt. Little Valley scored on their own net after a defensive miscue, tying the game with just under 16 minutes left to play.

"Shawn Ralston crossed the ball into their zone, and their defender misplayed the ball and kicked it into their own net," said Johengen. "I thought (Shawn) Ralston played an outstanding game from start to finish and dictated play in the midfield. It wore Catt.-Little Valley down, which I think led to our goals at the end of the game."

With the second half coming to an end Nate Halstrom scored off an assist by Bobby Kroll. Kroll played a ball into the 18-yard box, where Nate Halstrom received the pass and finished the ball into the back of the net, giving the Black Knights the go-ahead goal.

Joe Kapa had nine saves in the goal for Silver Creek.

Catt. Little Valley keeper Christian Hensel recorded 13 saves in the loss.
