Center to hold Mediation Settlement Day Thursday
On Thursday, Oct. 16, Child & Family Services Center for Resolution and Justice will commemorate Mediation Settlement Day in an effort to raise awareness of the benefits of mediation and of the wealth of available resources to the public in Chautauqua County. Mediation can be used to resolve, and even prevent, conflicts involving families, individuals, businesses, institutions and communities.
Mediation Settlement Day is organized by a coalition of mediation providers with the objective of raising the awareness of mediation and its effectiveness as an economical resource to resolve disputes. Throughout the day, organizations across New York state will conduct special programs designed to promote mediation and to educate potential parties and attorneys about the mediation process.
Courtrooms across the state will open their doors to mediators and ask disputants to voluntarily participate in mediation to resolve their legal issues. The aim is to encourage parties to try mediations for the first time and to reinforce its value and effectiveness to those who have benefited from it before.
"Child and Family Services Center for Resolution and Justice is pleased to be among the hundreds of organizations supporting Mediation Settlement Day in New York," said Julie M. Loesch, Esq., Center Director. "Our goal is to educate as many people as possible about mediation and its effectiveness as a tool for resolving conflicts within the community and workplace."
Parties to mediation consistently express high praise for the process as saving time, money and the prolonged emotional stress of long-lasting litigation. Community Dispute Resolution Centers and private practitioners handle tens of thousands of mediations, conciliations and arbitrations each year involving millions of dollars in settlements being paid between disputing parties.
Locally, services are provided in Dunkirk, Jamestown and Mayville. Services provided by the center include: Agricultural Mediation; IMPACT Mediation between youth and their peers, parents, educators and others; Parenting Apart Classes for parents who are separating or who do not reside together; Community Mediation involving all types of community disputes; Conflict Management Training; Commercial Dispute Resolution Services; Lemon Law Arbitration; Custody/Visitation Mediation; Special Education Mediation; and Early Intervention Mediation.
Services are confidential, quickly scheduled and, in most cases, cost-free. Cases may be initiated by individuals, businesses, attorneys, school personnel, public and private agencies, judges, and law enforcement personnel.
