COLLINS - Arthur J. Brown, 84, a retired supervisor for Natural Fuel Gas, where he worked for 33 years, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Gowanda Nursing Home, Gowanda, N.Y.
Arthur was a 47-year member of the Collins Fire Dept., American Legion Post 409, Gowanda Moose Lodge, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Collins Town Board for 12 years. He was a coach for Collins Little League Baseball. He will always be remembered for his community service.
He was born August 5, 1924 in Otto, N.Y., the son of the late Floyd and Nora (Cosline) Brown.
He is survived by Marilyn S. Brown, whom he married on May 16, 1953 in St. Marys RC Church in Cattaraugus, of Collins, N.Y., a daughter, Deborah B. Barber and Dan Andrusz of Akron, N.Y., a son Michael F.(Mary) Brown of Collins, NY, three granddaughters; Tracy L. Brown and Valerie D. Brown both of Collins, N.Y., Krista Minnick of Hamburg, N.Y., and a grandson, Matthew Minnick of Collins, N.Y., also several nephews & nieces.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Valerie J. Brown, his two brothers Charles Brown, and Glenn Brown.
He served in the Army during World War II.
A Prayer service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 20, 2008 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Father Daniel P. Walsh, Pastor will be officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Gowanda, NY.
Visitation will be held at Hills Funeral Chapel, 255 Aldrich Street, Gowanda on Tuesday from 7-9 P.M. and on Wednesday from 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M. Collins Fire Dept. memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
