Friday toast

There's still time to purchase tickets for the "Grape Expectations Wine Festival," which is being sponsored by the Dunkirk and Fredonia Chambers of Commerce. The event, which is taking place at the Clarion Hotel in Dunkirk, is set for Friday at 6 p.m. The cost is $10. For more information, call Dunkirk chamber President Stephanie Pulvino at 366-4070, ext. 1237.

Sounding off

The fourth annual Dunkirk Jazz Invitational will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Dunkirk Clarion Hotel and Conference Center. According to Rob DeSantis, president of the Northern Chautauqua County Band Directors Association, more than 150 student musicians from six local high school jazz ensembles will be featured. Groups performing include Dunkirk High School, Pine Valley High School, Forestville High School, Fredonia High School, Silver Creek High School, and Cassadaga Valley High School as well as the Keshequa High School Jazz Ensemble all the way from Nunda.

Also providing entertainment is the swingin' sounds of the Dave Golando Quartet, featuring Dave Golando (reeds), Tom Gestwicki (guitar), Vince Micchiki (bass) and Craig Ridgeway (drums).

The Dunkirk Jazz Invitational provides these young, aspiring jazz musicians the opportunity to hear the performances of their peers from around Western New York, as well as provide an evening of stellar entertainment to our local community.

This event is open to the public and is free of charge.

Going up

Area pump prices continue to rise slightly around the region. On Monday, most pump prices were at $2.18 per gallon, that is a 2-cent increase from Easter Weekend.

Getting out

Temperatures and walkers not only made it feel like spring, but also look a lot like spring across the region on Saturday. Hundreds attended the Rockin' the Commons Festival in Fredonia while others did yard work or just kicked back and read a book on the patio or porch.

Moving out

More than a year ago, a developer from Lowe's approached a village of Fredonia board regarding a possible location at the current Cornell Cooperative Extension location off Route 20. Now, a sign near the site is seeking others to purchase land. Cornell is moving to its new location, which is progressing quickly, to the west in Portland.

Clean sweep

The Board of Directors of Fredonia Little League would like to thank all community members who helped make the annual Spring Cleanup a success. Through their dedicated and hard work, the organization again will be ready for a great season of Fredonia Little League baseball and softball.
